VisionQuest opens with deaths of Fiona and J.A.R.V.I.S.

The first two episodes of VisionQuest leave Vision facing the deaths of Fiona, an Edinburgh pub owner, and J.A.R.V.I.S., an artificial intelligence who sacrifices himself to help save Vision and the other AIs. The losses shape the series’ opening story and expose a more forceful side of the character, played by Paul Bettany. In episode 1, bounty hunter Paladin’s men attack the pub where Vision has been working undercover. Fiona is shot and killed during the assault, according to the episode recaps. Vision fights off the attackers and escapes. The death also ends the relative safety of his life in hiding. Paladin later captures Tommy Shepherd, whom Vision regards as his son, and uses him to draw Vision out. In episode 2, Paladin confronts Vision at the pub and demands his surrender. The confrontation turns violent, and Paladin’s weapons damage Vision’s body and disrupt the systems supporting the AIs in his mind. As Vision’s systems fail, J.A.R.V.I.S. gives up his code to preserve Vision and the other AIs. The sacrifice allows Vision to survive the attack.
