Michael Jackson Super Bowl Documentary Set for 2027

Published 13 October 2026

Hulu and ESPN are scheduled to premiere a documentary about Michael Jackson’s 1993 Super Bowl halftime performance in February 2027. The film, titled Spectacle Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl, will examine how Jackson and his team prepared for the show and will include previously unseen footage, according to the announcement described in reports. No exact premiere date has been announced. Bao Nguyen is directing the feature-length documentary, and reports also identify him as a producer. The film focuses on Jackson’s performance at Super Bowl XXVII, held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on January 31, 1993. A teaser released alongside the announcement offers a preview of the project and includes footage of Jackson performing at the stadium. The halftime show included songs such as Jam, Billie Jean and Black or White, followed by We Are the World and Heal the World. Thousands of young performers joined Jackson during the latter songs, according to accounts of the performance. The documentary is expected to revisit the production and the team’s preparation, rather than simply present the concert as a standalone recording.
