Live-Action Moana Sets Disney+ Release Date
Disney announced that the live-action adaptation of Moana will begin streaming on Disney+ on October 21, 2026, extending the film’s release from theaters and home-video formats to the company’s streaming service. The date was disclosed in a promotional announcement. The film, starring Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui, follows the young voyager’s effort to restore the heart of Te Fiti and protect her island community. Johnson reprises the role he voiced in the 2016 animated film. The theatrical release came in July, according to the supplied accounts. The film was subsequently made available on digital platforms in early September and on Blu-ray and DVD on October 6, according to one report. The October 21 streaming date is the next announced distribution milestone. Disney’s announcement establishes the scheduled date; the film has not yet begun streaming as of October 13. Disney and the environmental nonprofit Heal the Bay have also announced a community beach cleanup at Santa Monica Beach for October 17. The planned event is to include a performance by Tiana Nonosina Liufau, identified as the film’s choreographer and associate producer.
