Disney Greenlights Animated Artemis Fowl Series

Disney and Disney Channel have greenlit an animated series based on Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl books, the author announced at a New York Comic Con panel. Colfer will serve as an executive producer on the adaptation, which does not yet have an announced release date. Colfer made the announcement during the “25 Years of Artemis Fowl” panel, marking a quarter-century since the first book in the fantasy series. Ben Juwono and Colleen Evanson are also executive producers, according to the announcement. The series follows 13-year-old Artemis Fowl, a young genius who discovers a hidden world inhabited by technologically advanced fairies. The premise has Artemis devising a plan to capture one of them and take its magic in an effort to heal his ailing mother and help his family. Colfer said he was pleased to be part of the team bringing the books to animation and expressed confidence in its work. Disney Kids and Family president Ayo Davis said the series would introduce the franchise to a new generation while recognizing longtime readers. The animated project marks a new adaptation of the books after Disney’s 2020 live-action film.
