Vance urges Alaska voters to back Sullivan and Begich

Published 6 October 2026

Vice President JD Vance urged Alaska voters to reelect Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan and Rep. Nick Begich at a campaign rally in Fairbanks on Monday, making energy development a central theme as Sullivan faces Democrat Mary Peltola in a closely watched Senate race. Vance praised Sullivan’s role in promoting energy production and promised that the Alaska LNG project would be completed, while criticizing Peltola’s record in Congress. The rally came as polls cited in recent reports showed Peltola ahead, though the estimates differ and are not directly comparable. A New York Times poll conducted from September 24 to October 1 gave Peltola a seven-point lead. A RealClearPolitics polling average cited in another report put her 1.8 points ahead, without specifying the period covered. Polling Alaska is challenging because of the state’s large rural population, according to the reporting. Vance highlighted Alaska’s natural resources and argued that energy development could coexist with environmental protection. He said Alaska LNG remained a priority for Sullivan and the Trump administration and pledged it would get done.
