Trump Uses Anti-Trans Slur Against South Carolina Candidate
President Donald Trump used an anti-transgender slur three times in a Truth Social post attacking Annie Andrews, the Democratic nominee for a U.S. Senate seat in South Carolina, while urging voters to support Republican Darline Graham. Andrews is not transgender. Trump said she did not represent South Carolina and called on voters to reject her in the upcoming election. Andrews responded by emphasizing her work as a mother and pediatrician and her campaign priorities, rather than addressing the insult directly. She said she was running to fight for her patients, her three children and South Carolina, and would work with anyone to put the state first. She also highlighted lowering costs and improving life for families. The post included Trump’s praise for Graham, whom he described as a close friend of her late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham. Trump endorsed Darline Graham, who is seeking a full Senate term after Gov. Henry McMaster appointed her to fill her brother’s seat following his death in July 2026. She won the Republican primary runoff against Rep. Ralph Norman by nearly five percentage points.
