Usha Vance Stumbles With Infant at Helicopter Steps

Published 6 October 2026

Footage shows Usha Vance briefly stumbling while descending the steps of a vice presidential helicopter at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on October 5, as her infant son was strapped to her chest. She caught herself on a railing, regained her balance and continued down the steps with the baby. No injury was reported in the accounts reviewed. The video shows Vance holding the railing as she starts down and then lurches forward after appearing to miss a step. She reaches for the railing and steadies herself. The infant remained secured in a carrier, and the footage shows her continuing with him after recovering. The accounts describe the event as a brief stumble, not a fall to the ground. Vance and some of the couple’s children were accompanying Vice President JD Vance on a trip to Alaska. Before departure, he told reporters that the journey was Usha Vance’s 50th state and described the flight as seven and a half hours. He said their infant son was joining the trip. Reports differ on the child’s age, so it is not clear from the accounts whether he was nine weeks or older at the time. The vice president was traveling to campaign for Republican Sen.
