Two killed, 35 injured in Vienna homecoming party shooting
Two people were killed and 35 others injured when gunfire erupted early Sunday at a homecoming block party in Vienna, Georgia, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The deaths and reported injuries occurred during a large gathering in Dooly County, where deputies were already patrolling. Authorities have not disclosed a suspect or motive, and the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation. The GBI said deputies from the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office were at the neighborhood event when shots were fired at about 1:25 a.m. Sunday, October 4. Deputies found two people dead at the scene and others with injuries. The bureau said victims were taken to several hospitals for treatment but did not say how many of the 35 injured had gunshot wounds or describe the severity of their injuries. Sheriff Craig Peavy told local television station WMAZ that more than 1,000 people had gathered for the celebration. He said shots were fired at about 50 people in two locations roughly a block apart. The GBI said the gunfire began in the 900 block of Pine Street, while the two people killed were found in the 600 block, according to its account.
