7-Year-Old Girl Dies After Stabbing on Chicago’s South Side
A seven-year-old girl died after being stabbed multiple times in the back while walking on South Cottage Grove Avenue in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood on Saturday, October 3, police said. Bystanders detained the woman suspected in the attack, who was injured and taken to a hospital before remaining in police custody. The stabbing occurred shortly before noon in the 8600 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, near East 86th Street, according to police. The girl was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police said the woman approached the child and used a sharp object to stab her several times in the back. Police accounts said witnesses intervened and detained the woman. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening, and remained in custody as detectives investigated. The accounts do not specify what caused her injuries or describe precisely how she was subdued. Business surveillance footage described in reporting showed witnesses rushing toward the scene and others running after the suspect in the immediate aftermath. The footage shows events after the stabbing, not the attack itself.
