Trump Rules Out Livestream of Hasan Execution

Published 15 October 2026

President Donald Trump said on October 15 that Nidal Hasan’s scheduled execution will not be livestreamed, reversing a plan Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had announced the previous week. Trump said immediate family members of the victims may attend in person if they choose. The execution remains scheduled for December 3, 2026, at Fort Hood, Texas, by firing squad. The U.S. Army’s schedule specifies 1 p.m. local time. Trump’s announcement sets out the current plan for the broadcast and family attendance; it does not establish that the execution will ultimately take place as scheduled. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had considered a livestream a possible deterrent but that many people would not want to watch an execution. He said the event would not be streamed and that the victims’ immediate families could view it in person if they wished. The announcement changes the proposed public broadcast, while leaving the stated method and scheduled date unchanged. Hegseth had said the execution would be public and that people would be able to watch. The proposal drew objections from lawmakers and religious leaders, including from members of both major U.S. parties.
