Trump Calls El-Sayed ‘Mohammed’ and Endorses Rogers

Published 8 October 2026

President Donald Trump used the name “Mohammed El-Sayed” for Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed in an Oct. 7 Truth Social post, called him a “RADICAL Extremist” and “Terrorist Sympathizer,” and endorsed Republican Mike Rogers. Trump’s post also accused El-Sayed of being aligned with political streamer Hasan Piker and said his values did not represent Michigan or the United States. Those statements were Trump’s allegations; the reports provide no independent substantiation for them. El-Sayed’s full name is Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, though he is generally known as Abdul. The available reporting does not establish why Trump used “Mohammed.” El-Sayed, a physician and former public health official, responded on X that Trump was using his name and faith to distract from suffering caused by his policies. He wrote that it was “time for change.” The response was reported by one account; other reports did not include it. Rogers campaign spokeswoman Alyssa Brouillet said the race was about El-Sayed’s policy positions, not his name or faith. She cited proposals and positions the campaign opposes, including taxes, private health insurance and prison policy.
