Protesters interrupt Trump rally as attendee grabs demonstrator

Published 8 October 2026

President Donald Trump’s October 7 campaign rally for Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton in San Antonio was repeatedly interrupted by protesters, and video showed an attendee grabbing a departing demonstrator by the shirt and hair. Other people at the event intervened and pulled them apart. The rally took place at Freeman Coliseum as Trump campaigned for Paxton, Texas’ attorney general and the Republican nominee in a Senate race against Democrat James Talarico. Accounts described multiple interruptions, but counted them differently, ranging from at least six or seven to nearly a dozen. Some reports also counted demonstrators who were removed or left, making the totals difficult to compare. Protesters called out during Trump’s remarks, at times prompting him to pause or move away from the microphone. Security personnel or police escorted several demonstrators from the venue, while supporters booed, chanted and waved cowboy hats. The footage of the physical confrontation shows a man approaching a protester as he moved through the crowd toward an exit, grabbing him and pulling him downward. Other attendees then separated them.
