Trump Says He May Fire Advisers Over Outside Work

Published 7 October 2026

President Donald Trump said Wednesday, October 7, that he would ask political advisers Chris LaCivita and James Blair about their outside clients and terminate them if he found their work created a conflict of interest. His comments followed reports that the two had undertaken paid consulting work in Bosnia and Herzegovina ahead of local elections in Republika Srpska. In a post on Truth Social, Trump described LaCivita and Blair as outside consultants permitted to work for other clients. He said he did not know who those clients were but would ask the advisers and fire them immediately if he found a conflict. The post did not say that he had completed a review or determined that a conflict existed. The reported consulting work was in Republika Srpska, a region within Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to an account cited in the reports, LaCivita and Blair traveled there before local elections and advised on voting-related matters. They were reportedly paid hundreds of thousands of dollars each through a Washington-based law firm retained by the regional government.
