Pentagon Plans Hasan Execution Livestream, Trump to Decide

Published 12 October 2026

The Pentagon has announced plans to livestream Nidal Hasan’s December 3 execution, but President Donald Trump says he will make the final decision on whether the broadcast proceeds. House Speaker Mike Johnson said some of his colleagues are concerned that footage could be used as a recruiting tool by terrorists, and that he would relay their views to the White House. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced last week that the execution would be public. A Pentagon official confirmed a livestream plan, according to reporting described in the source material. The announcement does not settle whether the execution will be broadcast: Trump has said the final call is his. Trump has described arguments both for and against showing the execution. He said a broadcast could deter others, while also saying he would decide whether it should be shown. No final decision is reported. Johnson, speaking in a CBS News interview, said he had not discussed the matter with Trump, Vice President JD Vance or Hegseth. He said colleagues had raised concerns and that he intended to share those views with the White House. Johnson also said he would not watch if the execution were aired.
