Tilak Varma Run Out After Boundary Mix-Up
Tilak Varma was run out after he and Axar Patel mistook a ball still in play for a boundary during India’s third T20I against the West Indies in Indore on October 11. The dismissal came in the 17th over, with Varma short of his crease when Gudakesh Motie broke the stumps. India went on to win by 14 runs, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Axar flicked a delivery from Motie toward the leg-side boundary, and the batters completed a single. They then stopped and appeared to believe the ball had crossed the rope. While they paused, West Indies fielders returned the ball to the wicket. Axar made it back safely to his crease, but Varma was away from his ground. The third umpire ruled him out after reviewing the play. Varma had scored 28 from 16 balls. The moment ended his innings and drew a visible reaction from India head coach Gautam Gambhir in the dugout. The decision followed a brief sequence in which the batters had stopped tracking the ball, while the West Indies fielders continued to play it. India made 223 before being bowled out in 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma led the scoring with 69 from 30 balls, while Ishan Kishan contributed 37. Axar later scored 20 from 14 balls.
