Abhishek Sharma Eyes 2,000 T20I Runs and Two Records
Abhishek Sharma will enter India’s third T20I against West Indies with a chance to reach 2,000 career runs and challenge two records held by Suryakumar Yadav, as the teams meet with their five-match series level at 1-1. The match is scheduled for October 11 at Holkar Stadium in Indore. Before play, Sharma had scored 1,967 runs in T20Is from 1,009 balls, leaving him 33 short of the 2,000-run milestone. Suryakumar reached that mark in 1,164 balls, the fastest tally cited in the pre-match statistics. Sharma could take the record if he reaches 2,000 before facing his 1,164th delivery. Sharma also had an opportunity to surpass Suryakumar’s cited calendar-year record for sixes in T20Is by a batter from a Full Member nation. Sharma had struck 63 sixes in 2026, while Suryakumar hit 68 in 2022. Sharma would need six more in the Indore match to move ahead. Neither milestone was confirmed in the pre-match reports, which did not include the result of the scheduled fixture. Sharma had scored 21 and 20 runs in the first two games of the series. India won the opener by eight wickets, before West Indies levelled the series with a six-wicket victory in Ranchi while chasing a target of 250.
