ICC Fines India and West Indies for Slow Over Rates
The International Cricket Council fined India 20% of their match fees and West Indies 10% after finding both teams short of the required over rate in the third ODI, the governing body said Monday. India were ruled four overs short after time allowances were applied, while West Indies were two overs short. The penalties followed the final match of the three-game series, played in New Chandigarh on October 3. Both captains pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanctions, the ICC said, so formal hearings were not required. Match referee Prakash Bhatt imposed the fines. The ICC said the charges were brought by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski, with third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Virender Sharma also identified in connection with the charges. The reports supplied do not include the match records or calculations underlying the over-rate findings. The different deductions reflected the number of overs each team was found to be short. Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, a five-per-cent match-fee deduction applies for each over short, according to one account of the rule.
