Tesla schedules Roadster reveal after years of delays

Published 15 October 2026

Tesla has scheduled a livestreamed reveal of its second-generation Roadster for October 15, nearly nine years after unveiling the electric sports car and setting an original 2020 production target. The event is set to begin at 7:55 p.m. Central Time, or 8:55 p.m. Eastern, according to the company’s announcement. The reveal was initially scheduled for October 1. Tesla postponed it, attributing the change to severe weather and the need to hold an outdoor demonstration. The company has not confirmed what it will show at the October 15 event or whether the vehicle will be a production-ready car. The Roadster has remained a long-delayed project since Tesla introduced the second generation in 2017. By the time of the October 2026 reports, no production car had been delivered. Tesla’s initial timeline called for production to begin in 2020, but that target passed without the car reaching customers. At the 2017 unveiling, Tesla cited a range of 620 miles and acceleration from zero to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds. Those specifications remain claims rather than demonstrated performance from a production vehicle, according to the reports.
