StarkWare Launches Shadow Accounts on Starknet
StarkWare announced Shadow Accounts for Starknet on October 14, 2026, introducing persistent, application-specific addresses intended to make it harder to connect users’ DeFi activity to their main wallets. The company says balances, transactions and positions held through the accounts remain visible onchain, so the feature separates identities rather than concealing activity. The accounts are designed for use in decentralized finance applications that integrate the feature. Under the described workflow, users fund an account with shielded balances from Starknet’s STRK20 privacy pool, deposit assets into an application’s vault and maintain positions under an address specific to that application. Users can later withdraw funds back to a shielded balance. StarkWare says the addresses persist over time, allowing a user to keep activity in different applications under distinct onchain identities rather than using one main wallet address across protocols. That could make it more difficult for observers to associate an application account with the wallet that funded it.
