Rookie Daniels set to start as Buccaneers visit Cowboys

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are scheduled to visit the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night, with rookie Jalon Daniels set to start at quarterback for Tampa Bay in place of the injured Baker Mayfield. The Buccaneers are 0-4, while Dallas enters at 2-2 after rallying past Houston, and the game is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Eastern at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles confirmed Daniels would remain the starter, according to the team preview. Mayfield is sidelined with a dislocated thumb. Daniels made his first NFL start against Green Bay last week, completing passes for 148 yards and a touchdown while throwing two interceptions; he also rushed for 55 yards. The Buccaneers lost that game 17-14. Dallas defeated Houston 34-30, scoring 28 points in the second half to complete its comeback. The Cowboys are averaging 30.5 points per game through four games, among the league’s highest totals. Tampa Bay has not scored more than 20 points in a game since Week 1, when it lost 33-27 to Cincinnati, according to the matchup coverage.
