Rick Nielsen Collection Auction Set for October 24

Rick Nielsen and Julien’s Auctions have announced a sale of items from the Cheap Trick guitarist’s collection, scheduled for October 24 at the Musicians Hall of Fame Museum in Nashville, with online bidding also available. Julien’s Auctions says a portion of the proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; the sale and any donation have not yet taken place. The collection is expected to include guitars and other instruments, cars, stage-worn clothing, awards and personal memorabilia. Reports give different totals for the items, ranging from about 300 to more than 300, and the final inventory has not been established in the material released so far. Among the featured pieces is a custom five-neck, 38-string 2004 Hamer Korina guitar that Nielsen has played onstage. Julien’s Auctions says it will be offered publicly for the first time. The unusual instrument reflects Nielsen’s longstanding use of distinctive guitars and his onstage practice of stacking multiple instruments for solos. The collection also includes other guitars, though the announced material does not provide a definitive catalogue of everything to be sold.
