Real Madrid rally from 3-1 down to beat Roma 4-3

Published 14 October 2026

Real Madrid came from 3-1 down to beat Roma 4-3 in a Champions League match at the Stadio Olimpico on October 14, scoring three late goals on José Mourinho’s return to face his former club as Real’s coach. Roma had taken the lead through Marten de Roon before Kylian Mbappe equalized for Madrid. Donyell Malen then scored twice in a six-minute span in the second half to put Roma ahead 3-1. Real responded with goals from Carlos Espi, Endrick and Antonio Rudiger, completing the comeback with Rudiger’s 90th-minute strike. The winning goal came after a late surge in which all three Madrid goals were reported to have stemmed from corners. Espi scored from close range after a rebound, and Endrick headed in two minutes later. Rudiger, a former Roma defender, finished from close range to secure the result. Mourinho’s return was marked by a warm reception from Roma supporters. Fans applauded when his name was announced before kickoff and displayed banners and a large flag showing him with the Conference League trophy. One banner praised the coach for bringing glory to Rome. Mourinho waved to supporters, who also chanted for him.
