Real Madrid urges UEFA to conclude Barcelona case

Published 1 October 2026

Real Madrid has urged UEFA to bring its investigation into payments by Barcelona to companies linked to former Spanish refereeing official José María Enríquez Negreira to a conclusion, saying UEFA confirmed it received the club’s complaint and supporting material. The request does not establish wrongdoing, and UEFA’s assessment of the material remains unresolved. In a statement, Real Madrid said its complaint included extensive documentation and called for investigators to proceed with utmost urgency. One account described the submission as a 50,000-page document, while another said it ran to tens of thousands of pages. The material has not been publicly assessed in the accounts provided, and its contents do not amount to a finding against Barcelona. Barcelona said UEFA has not opened new proceedings. The club said the case began in 2023 and has never been closed, and that investigators had made no new requests to Barcelona or forwarded Real Madrid’s complaint to it. Barcelona said the submitted documents would be considered within the existing process and that investigators would decide what action, if any, was appropriate.
