Manchester United lose 2-0 to Atlético Madrid

Published 14 October 2026

Manchester United lost 2-0 to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, October 13, extending its winless run to five matches across all competitions. Pablo Barrios scored inside the first minute, and Ademola Lookman added Atlético’s second in the 79th minute after United defender Leny Yoro was sent off. The early goal came after Alex Baena broke forward and set up Barrios, whose close-range effort crossed the line. United responded with several opportunities to equalize. Bryan Mbeumo had two first-half chances, while Marcus Rashford also failed to convert an opportunity. United pressed for a goal after the break, but Atlético remained dangerous on the counterattack. Yoro was dismissed in the 74th minute following a video review of a challenge on Jonathan David, who was through on goal. Atlético made its numerical advantage count five minutes later: goalkeeper Senne Lammens saved David’s attempt, but Lookman scored from the rebound. The result leaves Michael Carrick’s side without a win in five consecutive games. United’s next listed match is away to Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday, October 18.
