Real Madrid and Villarreal scheduled for La Liga clash

Real Madrid were scheduled to host Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 10 in a La Liga Matchday 8 fixture, with both teams seeking points after the international break. The supplied match previews do not report a result, so the fixture’s outcome is not established here. The game was listed to begin at 3 p.m. ET, or 8 p.m. BST. Real Madrid entered the match fourth in the league table after winning five and losing two of their first seven games, according to previews. One account put the team six points behind Barcelona. The reports described Madrid as needing a win to keep pace in the title race. Villarreal arrived after consecutive league victories. Preview coverage said the club had beaten Levante and Málaga 3-1 in each of its two matches before the international break. The recent wins offered a contrast with Madrid’s two defeats, but neither team’s form establishes what happened in this fixture. Fitness reports ahead of kickoff pointed to possible absences and doubts for Madrid. José Mourinho said Éder Militão would be unavailable, while Rodrygo, Ferland Mendy and Raúl Asencio were still recovering from injuries.
