Prime Video Watson Coverage Draws Online Criticism

Published 3 October 2026

Prime Video’s coverage of Deshaun Watson before, during and after Cleveland’s 27-24 win over Pittsburgh on October 1 drew online criticism from viewers who said the broadcast emphasized the quarterback’s personal adversity and comeback while giving too little weight to the sexual-misconduct allegations and NFL discipline that remain part of his public history. The criticism concerned several segments, not just one remark. Before kickoff, reporter Taylor Rooks interviewed Watson about his struggles in Cleveland and the public response to him. Watson said he had struggled with his mental state and felt the world had turned against him. Asked whether public skepticism was fair, he said he did not think so personally but understood the situation and accepted responsibility, according to the interview account. Some viewers objected that the segment focused on Watson’s difficulties without sufficiently addressing the allegations. During the game, Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit discussed Watson’s return to Cleveland’s starting lineup and whether success could improve his relationship with fans.
