Postmortem attributes Nana Patekar’s death to heart attack

Published 11 October 2026

A postmortem attributed actor Nana Patekar’s death on October 8 to a heart attack caused by a blood clot blocking a major coronary artery, a senior doctor at Goa Medical College and Hospital said on October 11. The report classified the death as natural, according to the doctor’s account of its findings. The cause was recorded as acute myocardial infarction due to left main coronary artery thrombosis, secondary to atherosclerotic occlusive coronary artery disease. The left main coronary artery supplies blood to a large portion of the heart. The medical terminology describes a heart attack associated with a clot in that artery and underlying coronary artery disease. Patekar, 75, became unwell at his residence in Dona Paula, near Panaji, in the early hours of October 8. His caretaker contacted a nearby private hospital and requested an ambulance, according to accounts of the events. Doctors attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation for about 45 minutes, but were unable to revive him. He was declared dead at 5:10 a.m., and his body was taken to Goa Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem examination.
