Portugal beat Denmark 4-2 without Ronaldo
Portugal beat Denmark 4-2 in Copenhagen on Thursday to maintain a perfect start in Nations League Group A4, winning without Cristiano Ronaldo after the forward left the national team camp before the match. Gonçalo Ramos scored and assisted, while João Cancelo, Vitinha and João Félix also found the net for Portugal. Denmark twice equalised before Portugal secured the result in the second half. Cancelo opened the scoring in the 13th minute after a pass from Ramos. Mikkel Damsgaard levelled for Denmark, but Ramos restored Portugal’s lead two minutes later. Rasmus Højlund made it 2-2 early in the second half. Vitinha then headed Portugal back in front from a Bruno Fernandes cross, and substitute Félix completed the scoring late in the match. Ronaldo, Portugal’s captain and record goalscorer, was absent after leaving camp on Wednesday. In a statement posted on Instagram, he said he had decided to leave after speaking with the Portuguese Football Federation president and would explain his reasons later. He had not started Portugal’s previous match, a win over Norway, after playing on the bench throughout.
