OpenAI Accuses Former Employee of Taking Device Files to Apple
OpenAI has accused a former employee of transferring more than 100 confidential files about an unreleased device to personal accounts and presenting the company’s product plans to Apple executives, according to a court filing. Apple said it found no evidence supporting the allegations and has policies to prevent new hires from using confidential information from former employers. OpenAI’s filing says the unnamed employee had previously worked at Apple, spent six months at OpenAI and then returned to Apple. The files allegedly included images of the device, engineering and manufacturing data, supplier information and project materials. OpenAI said some files were sent on June 2, 2026, the employee’s final day at the company. It also alleged that the employee briefed Apple senior leadership, including its vice president of operations in Asia, months earlier. The allegations have not been tested in court, and the supplied reporting does not independently establish that the files were transferred or that the presentation took place. Apple said it would work with OpenAI to address any of OpenAI’s information found on Apple systems.
