New Delhi Prepares for BRICS Summit Logistics

Published 9 September 2026

New Delhi is implementing significant logistical preparations, including expanded airport capacity and extensive traffic restrictions, to host the 18th BRICS Leaders Summit from September 11 to 13, 2026. The summit, centered in New Delhi, will bring together leaders and delegations from BRICS member and partner countries. Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) is increasing its international passenger handling capacity by 50 percent with the progressive operationalization of Pier C at Terminal 3. This expansion, set to begin handling international arrivals from the night of September 9 and both arrivals and departures from the evening of September 10, will raise the airport's annual international passenger capacity to 31 million. Dedicated immigration counters for summit participants are also being established. Airport officials stated that these measures, coordinated with security and operational stakeholders, aim to manage the anticipated surge in international traffic while upholding safety and security standards.
