Russian Attacks Kill Civilians in Kyiv and Border Area

Russia launched a large-scale aerial assault on Ukraine's capital overnight into Wednesday, resulting in at least five civilian deaths and 35 injuries in Kyiv. The attack, which involved missiles and drones, also damaged residential buildings, a school, and several warehouses, signaling a potential end to a recent lull in hostilities in the capital. Separately, a Russian drone strike on Wednesday killed civilians at a checkpoint on the border with Moldova, according to Ukraine's State Border Guard Service. The service reported that "strike UAVs unmanned aerial vehicles" targeted the Starokozache international road checkpoint, causing fires and casualties among civilians present. The checkpoint was subsequently closed. In a separate incident on Tuesday, September 8, a Russian strike drone hit the building of the We Are Ukraine TV channel in Kyiv while journalists were broadcasting live. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the attack partially destroyed the facility and injured at least five people, condemning it as a deliberate strike against the media.
