Netflix Weighs Cuts Affecting About 5% of Workforce

Published 9 October 2026

Netflix is considering cutting about 5% of its workforce, a move that could affect roughly 800 positions based on its reported year-end headcount. The company has not confirmed the plan, and the proposed timing, final scale and affected teams remain unknown. The reported proposal could be announced as early as next week, according to information attributed to people familiar with the plans. Netflix declined to comment. The reports do not establish whether the company will proceed with layoffs or identify any departments that might be affected. Netflix reported about 16,000 full-time employees at the end of 2025. Applying a 5% reduction to that figure yields an estimate of about 800 jobs, not a confirmed total. Another estimate of roughly 850 uses a workforce of about 17,000; both figures are conditional calculations based on different headcount baselines. If carried out, the cuts would be the company’s largest workforce reduction since 2022, when it laid off hundreds of employees amid a slowdown in growth and subscriber losses. Netflix has also made smaller staffing reductions since then, including cuts to its product team earlier in 2026.
