Geely plans to begin Canadian vehicle sales in 2027
Geely Auto Group says it has begun establishing Canadian operations and plans to start selling vehicles in the country in 2027, marking the Chinese automaker’s entry into Canada under its own brand. The company has not announced which models it will offer or a specific date when sales will begin. The company said it is developing a retail and service network and recruiting dealer partners ahead of the planned launch. Bryan Wu, managing director of Geely Auto Canada, described the move as a long-term commitment. Geely has not named dealer locations or provided Canadian prices. The planned launch follows a Canada-China arrangement announced in January that allows a limited number of Chinese-made electric vehicles into Canada at a lower tariff rate. Under the terms reported for the arrangement, an annual quota of 49,000 vehicles is subject to a 6.1% most-favoured-nation tariff, while imports above the quota face a 100% surtax. The quota is administered in six-month periods. According to the reported permit figures, 8,897 unused vehicles from the first period rolled into the period ending February 28, 2027, bringing that period’s quota to 33,397.
