Marshals Season 2 Opens With Tate’s Rescue and Dolly’s Death
The Season 2 premiere of Marshals follows Kayce Dutton as he rescues his son, Tate, from Tom Weaver, ending with Weaver’s daughter, Dolly, dead after a car crash during the escape. Kayce takes Weaver into custody rather than killing him, leaving him to face the consequences of the crash and his daughter’s death, according to the episode accounts. The premiere begins with Weaver threatening Tate’s life to pressure Kayce into selling him land. Kayce and the Marshals team confront Weaver and his operation, and Kayce gets Tate to safety. The rescue does not resolve the conflict without loss: as Weaver flees with Dolly, their car crashes. Weaver survives, while Dolly dies at the scene. Weaver later asks Kayce to kill him, but Kayce refuses. Showrunner Spencer Hudnut said the creative team debated Dolly’s fate and considered different directions for her character. He said he had initially imagined her as more complicit in her father’s plan than she ultimately appeared in the story. Actor Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce, said Dolly’s awareness remained ambiguous to him; he described the character as being played as unaware, while acknowledging that her actions leave room for questions.
