Journalist Accuses Delhi Police Officer of Groping Her
An independent journalist has accused Delhi Police Assistant Commissioner Vivek Bhagat of groping and pushing her while she covered a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 3. Delhi Police said complaints from three female journalists alleging sexual harassment by police officers during the protest had been transferred to the Crime Branch for inquiry. The allegations against Bhagat have not been independently verified. The journalist said she was reporting on the detention of All India Students Association activist Neha Bora when the alleged incident occurred. In a video shared by Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke, she said Bhagat squeezed or groped her and shoved her after she asked him about the detention. She said she raised an alarm and that he left. The journalist said she went to Parliament Street Police Station to file a complaint and waited there for hours without an FIR being registered. Hundreds of journalists, protesters and lawyers gathered outside the station, according to reports, calling for action on the complaint. The available accounts do not establish whether an FIR was later registered in connection with her allegation.
