Three arrested in alleged assault at Delhi park

Delhi Police have arrested three men in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl at Astha Kunj Park, and are investigating whether the accused may have been involved in earlier incidents. Police said one man was injured in an exchange of fire during his arrest early Tuesday. The allegations have not been established in court. The incident was reported to have taken place Monday evening, September 21, after the teenager and a 17-year-old friend went to the park following a visit to Kalkaji temple. According to police accounts, the men approached the pair while posing as police officers, separated the girl from her friend and threatened them. Police allege the girl was taken to secluded parts of the park and sexually assaulted by the three men. Police identified the accused as Asif and brothers Hemant and Mukesh. One report used the name Mahesh for Hemant’s brother; police accounts in other reports identify him as Mukesh. Officials said the three were arrested Tuesday. Asif was apprehended after an exchange of fire, during which he was injured, according to police. The other two were arrested at their home.
