Delhi Police transfer journalists’ complaints to Crime Branch

Published 4 October 2026

Delhi Police said it received sexual-harassment complaints from three women journalists about officers at a protest near Jantar Mantar on October 3 and transferred them to the Crime Branch for inquiry. The allegations have not been independently established, and police did not say whether a First Information Report was registered specifically for the journalists’ complaints. The protest was held amid demonstrations concerning Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Delhi Police said the complaints were transferred for a fair and impartial inquiry. No findings from the Crime Branch inquiry were reported. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to respond, arguing that Delhi Police falls under the Ministry of Home Affairs. In a post on X, Gandhi said a journalist had accused an officer of misconduct and alleged that journalists had been demanding for hours that an FIR be registered. He also claimed police had detained hundreds of people, dragged journalists and taken cameras, and that women protesters had faced misconduct.
