Joburg Super Kings sign Rowles and Pollard at SA20 auction
Joburg Super Kings signed 18-year-old Jason Rowles for US$174,248, making him the highest-priced player at the SA20 Season 5 auction, and added veteran allrounder Kieron Pollard for R1.5 million. The auction concluded on October 7 in Johannesburg, with four franchises completing their squads. Rowles, a South African prospect and Schools SA20 graduate, drew a bidding contest between Joburg Super Kings and MI Cape Town before the Super Kings secured him. The reported US$174,248 price is also given as R2.9 million. Pollard, a West Indies allrounder who previously played for MI Cape Town in the SA20, was signed for R1.5 million. The auction account reported that Joburg Super Kings bid immediately and no rival bid followed. His move follows his departure from the MI Cape Town squad after the 2026 season. The Super Kings also brought back former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis, who was reported as a US$162,286 signing after interest from MI Cape Town. They added Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani and USA batter Andries Gous.
