James Gunn Says He Is Writing His Next Film
James Gunn said he is already writing his next film while work continues on Superman: Man of Tomorrow, whose assembly cut he has described as complete. Gunn has not identified the new project or confirmed whether it will be part of the DC Universe. The filmmaker made the comments in a reply to a fan on Threads who asked whether he was ready to write another movie. Gunn answered, “Already in it. I had to do something while I was waiting for the assembly.” His remark indicates that he began the next writing project while awaiting an early edit of the Superman sequel, but does not establish what the project is or how far it has progressed. Gunn also said the assembly cut of Man of Tomorrow was complete. An assembly cut is an early edit that puts footage in sequence; its completion does not mean the film is finished. Gunn announced in August that principal photography had wrapped. The movie is scheduled to be released on July 9, 2027. Man of Tomorrow is a sequel to 2025’s Superman. David Corenswet is returning as Superman, with Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The story will bring the two characters together against Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger, according to the reports.
