iOS 27 Beta Reveals Advanced Camera Features

Published 8 September 2026

Code discovered within the latest iOS 27 beta suggests Apple is preparing to introduce several advanced camera features, potentially enhancing the iPhone's photography and videography capabilities. While not yet enabled for users, these discoveries, detailed by developer "pdfu," point to a significant upgrade for the native Camera app, with some functionalities likely exclusive to upcoming iPhone models. Among the most notable potential additions are professional-grade exposure tools, including waveform and histogram displays. These features, typically found in professional editing software, would allow users to more precisely judge exposure levels directly within the camera's viewfinder. Complementing these are focus peaking and highlight clipping overlays, designed to assist users in achieving sharper focus and avoiding overexposed areas in their shots. Focus peaking highlights in-focus edges, while highlight clipping warns of blown-out highlights. The selftimer functionality is also reportedly being expanded.
