India Wins First Asian Games Women’s Recurve Team Gold

Published 2 October 2026

India’s women’s recurve archery team defeated South Korea 5-3 in the Asian Games final on October 2, winning the country’s first gold medal in the event. Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma and Kumkum Mohod secured the title after a close contest that was decided by a fourth-set scoring review. The teams shared the first two sets, each scoring 54 in the opening set and 56 in the second. With the match level at 2-2 on set points, India took the third set 55-52 to move ahead 4-2. In the fourth, South Korea scored 54. India’s total was initially assessed at 53 after Kirti’s opening arrow was scored as an 8, but a review changed it to a 9, bringing India to 54 and tying the set. The tie supplied the point India needed to reach five and win the match. The result ended South Korea’s run of Asian Games women’s team recurve golds dating to 1998, according to a report on the match. South Korea took silver. The scoring review was central to the outcome, although the reports reviewed do not include the official scoring record or documentation of the decision. India had reached its first Asian Games final in the women’s team recurve event after beating China in the semifinal.
