Illinois Man Charged Over Alleged Temple Attack Plan
A 19-year-old Palatine man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged plan to attack a Hindu place of worship in the Aurora, Illinois, area, police said. Alexandros Paporakis was arrested October 11 by officers from the Palatine and Mount Prospect police departments. A judge ordered him detained after a court hearing, and he is scheduled to return to court October 30. Paporakis faces one count of making a terrorist threat and one count of unlawfully possessing a short-barreled rifle, according to police. Investigators say the inquiry began after Mount Prospect police received information from a person who reported concerning electronic communications from Paporakis. Police allege he had shared a document outlining a mass-shooting plan, along with images of a rifle, magazines, body armor and tactical equipment. Police said detectives examined a document attributed to Paporakis that expressed white-supremacist views and referred to violence against people of South Asian heritage, particularly Indians. Investigators believe he may have planned an attack on October 11 at a Hindu place of worship in the Aurora area.
