Hulu Orders Ryan Coogler’s X-Files Revival to Series
Hulu has ordered Ryan Coogler’s revival of The X-Files to series, advancing a new version of the science-fiction drama led by Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel. The order was announced Tuesday, October 13, 2026. No release date was provided. The series follows two FBI agents, played by Deadwyler and Patel, who are assigned to a long-shuttered division investigating unexplained phenomena. The announcement describes the agents as highly decorated and markedly different, and says they form an unlikely bond. The premise returns to the franchise’s focus on paranormal cases while introducing a new central team. Coogler wrote and directed the pilot and will executive produce the series. Jennifer Yale is the showrunner and an executive producer. Other executive producers include original X-Files creator Chris Carter, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian. The production involves Onyx Collective, 20th Television and Proximity Media. The pilot was shot earlier this year, and its guest cast includes Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs, Lochlyn Munro, Tantoo Cardinal, Joel D. Montgrand and Sofia Grace Clifton. Ludwig Göransson composed the pilot’s score.
