Futurama Ends Regular Run, With Three Specials Planned

Futurama has ended its 14th season as a regular series, with creator Matt Groening saying there are no current plans for another season. Three extended specials are planned for Hulu, beginning with a Christmas-themed installment in 2027, leaving the show’s longer-term future open. The season finale, titled “Final Ending The Last Conclusion,” became available on Hulu on September 28, 2026. The three specials will continue the story in a different format, but the creators have not said whether the series will resume as a regular show after they are released. Groening said the specials would tell larger stories, and that ideas introduced earlier in the series would be developed further. He has not detailed the second and third installments. The first will feature Robot Santa, a recurring character in the show’s version of Christmas, according to Groening. The change follows a history of endings and revivals for the animated science-fiction comedy, which first premiered in 1999. It ended its original Fox run in 2003, returned on Comedy Central in 2008 and concluded that run in 2013. Hulu brought it back in 2023.
