FIA says haze unlikely to disrupt Singapore GP track activity
The FIA said it does not expect smoke haze over Singapore to disrupt track activity at this weekend’s Grand Prix, but warned that worsening air quality could lead to restrictions on outdoor entertainment. The motorsport governing body said local authorities were monitoring conditions and contingency measures were in place. Any decisions on restrictions would follow local-authority recommendations, the FIA said. It did not specify an air-quality threshold that would trigger changes. Singapore’s air quality was in the unhealthy range on October 8, as smoke from fires in Indonesia continued to affect the city-state. In an update issued Wednesday evening, Singapore’s National Environment Agency said southeasterly to southerly winds could continue carrying smoke haze toward Singapore. The FIA said the haze was not expected to threaten the race or activity on the circuit. If conditions worsened, possible limits on outdoor activity would focus mainly on entertainment rather than the paddock and circuit, it said. The reports describe a possible response, not a final decision on whether any events would be restricted.
