FIA Declares Heat Hazard for Singapore Grand Prix

Published 8 October 2026

The FIA has declared a heat hazard for the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, citing an official forecast that the heat index could exceed 31°C during the competition. The designation allows Formula 1 teams to use driver-cooling systems under the sport’s regulations, as the event remains scheduled to proceed from October 9 to 11, with the Grand Prix set for Sunday, October 11. Race Director Rui Marques issued the declaration under Article B1.5.10 of the FIA Formula 1 Regulations. The heat-hazard status applies to the Sprint and Grand Prix, according to the FIA’s notice, which based the decision on the official weather service forecast. It is the fourth time the designation has been used this season and the second consecutive race weekend, according to reports. Teams may fit systems that circulate cooled liquid through a vest worn by a driver. The equipment is optional, but a car whose driver does not use the system must carry 5 kilograms of ballast, under the rules described in reports. The measure is intended to offset the system’s weight and avoid a competitive advantage for drivers who opt out.
