DogeOS Opens Testnet for Ethereum-Compatible Dogecoin Apps

Published 1 October 2026

DogeOS opened a public testnet on September 30, giving developers an environment to build and test Ethereum-compatible applications that use test DOGE to pay transaction fees. The launch introduces a programmable application layer for Dogecoin, whose base blockchain is primarily designed to transfer the cryptocurrency between wallets, but does not mean the apps are live on a production network. The testnet is designed to support smart contracts and applications such as trading and lending services. DogeOS is compatible with Ethereum’s software environment, allowing developers to use familiar tools to experiment with applications for Dogecoin. Projects including Barkswap and Superposition Finance are among those identified as developing products for the testnet. Their availability and features depend on each team’s development schedule. The system runs applications separately from Dogecoin’s base layer and uses cryptographic proofs to connect activity to the network. In its current design, it relies on selected operators, a permissioned sequencer that orders transactions, validators and a trusted execution environment. A Security Council also oversees the system.
