Bitget-linked wallets move $3.9 million into Zcash pool

Wallets linked to the September 24 Bitget breach transferred 2,746 ZEC, worth about $3.8 million to $3.9 million, into Zcash’s Ironwood shielded pool in three transactions on September 30, making the funds’ activity inside the pool hidden from public view. The deposits represent about 15% of the ZEC stolen in the breach, according to transaction-record analysis. The transfers entered Ironwood between 08:15 and 08:46 UTC. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT said they passed through two intermediary addresses funded by a wallet Bitget identified as belonging to the attacker. That wallet received nearly 18,917 ZEC during the breach, which Bitget has said resulted in a theft of $387.5 million. Zcash supports both public transactions and shielded transfers. Observers can see deposits entering Ironwood, but the sender, recipient and amount are concealed while funds are inside. If money later leaves for a public address, the withdrawal and amount can be seen. That information may help investigators compare timing and amounts, but the pool does not publicly link a withdrawal to a specific deposit. As of September 30, no withdrawal from Ironwood connected to these deposits had been reported.
