Zano Rolls Back Month of Activity After Gateway Exploit

Zano has restarted its blockchain at block 3,833,000, undoing roughly a month of network activity after a vulnerability tied to its Gateway Address feature allowed unauthorized ZANO and Freedom Dollar (fUSD) tokens to enter circulation. The rollback removes both that activity and legitimate transactions recorded during the affected period, the project said. The restart point is immediately before Hard Fork 6, which introduced Gateway Addresses. Zano says the emergency recovery will take full effect only as miners, stakers, node operators, exchanges and other services adopt updated software and support the recovered chain. The project has not published a technical postmortem explaining precisely how the vulnerability worked. Gateway Addresses were designed to help exchanges, bridges and payment providers integrate with Zano by representing funds as an account-style balance. The project says the flaw involved asset issuance through the feature, including ZANO and fUSD. It has said ordinary transaction privacy and wallet spending keys were not compromised, but the reports do not provide independent technical confirmation of the vulnerability’s scope.
