Digger’s $35.3 Million Gross Fuels Loss Projections
Digger has grossed about $35.3 million worldwide through its second weekend, as the Tom Cruise film’s weak ticket sales prompt projections of a substantial financial loss for Warner Bros. The loss estimates vary in scope and remain forecasts, not final results. Studio estimates put the film’s domestic opening weekend at $8 million. In its second weekend, it earned $3.2 million in the United States and Canada, a decline of about 60%. Its reported total through that weekend was $14.4 million domestically and $35.3 million worldwide. One projection puts Digger’s theatrical loss at about $245 million and its worldwide finish near $50 million. That estimate assumes the film needs roughly $350 million in global ticket sales to break even. A Warner Bros. spokesperson said the break-even point was closer to $300 million. A separate estimate, attributed to industry sources, puts the loss at at least $150 million including revenue from premium video-on-demand and streaming. That figure has a broader scope than the $245 million theatrical-loss projection and is not directly comparable.
